ABOUT
Joe Swanson, Jr., serves as the Director of the M. Delmar Edwards, M.D. Library at Morehouse School of Medicine, where he leads with a commitment to advancing medical education and access to health information. Mr. Swanson earned his Bachelor of Arts from Morehouse College before completing a Master of Science in Library Science at Atlanta University.

His career reflects a global and community-centered vision. Mr. Swanson has taught Medical Cataloging in the Republic of Georgia and recently collaborated with the University of Ghana School of Public Health to procure essential medical books, journals, and databases.
​
Mr. Swanson’s legacy is also captured in the National Vietnam Black Soldier Portrait Project, a powerful initiative by photographer Johnny Crawford that honors African American veterans.
A dedicated civic leader, Mr. Swanson is the Immediate Past President of 100 Black Men of South Metro Atlanta and a life member of 100 Black Men of America, organizations committed to mentoring, education, and community uplift.
